A Bipolar disorder is a chronic disease associated with relapse/recurrence, comorbidities, subsyndromal symptoms, cognitive deficits, and impairment in psychosocial function. Clinicians are greatly challenged to stabilize the patient during an acute episode—manic or depressive—and to maintain stability and optimal functionality once the episode has resolved.
