Chronic myelogenous (myeloid) leukemia (CML) therapy has greatly improved with the
introduction of tyrosine kinase inhibitors. However, advances are occurring so rapidly
in the diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring of patients with CML that clinicians
are challenged to maintain awareness of current treatment recommendations. Medical and community hematologists and oncologists, oncology nurses,
and primary care physicians who treat patients with CML need ongoing education regarding
therapeutic options and monitoring response. In Beyond Imatinib—Overcoming
Drug Resistance and Optimizing Therapy in CML, leading experts will
discuss improving outcomes for patients with CML through an understanding of the
leading causes of resistance to therapy, a consideration of agents that overcome
this resistance, and knowledge of the guidelines for monitoring disease response
to therapy.
